본문 Importance of Having Engineering Safety Regulations The government has made safety regulations in engineering. These rules are made so workers and people in the buildings do not get seriously hurt or even death. Every day people walk in and out of buildings without thinking about how stable the structure will hold. There are instances when safety rules are not enforced. On January 09, 2013, seven construction workers were seriously injured because a crane collapsed at a Long Island City, Queens work site (http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/crane-collapses-construction-workers-queens-article-1.1236637). This incident is still under investigation. Also, there has been a previous accident in 1992 which resulted in the death of one worker. The crane몶s wire snapped because it was worn out. In 2008, crane owner James Lomma was under investigation for criminally negligent homicide because two workers died after a crane collapsed. He was eventually found not guilty. The examples above are important reasons for safety rules in engineering. Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) has made guidelines for engineering (http://www.osha.gov/index.html). This administration was created by the United States Department of Labor which is a part of the federal government. Without the current safety rules in place, public safety would be a bigger concern and the death rate would most likely be much higher than it is right now. Safety rules are also important to prevent unnecessary work accidents during construction.
