(The effect of Manganese in carbon steel.)
Purpose.
The effect of Manganese in carbon steel.
Theory.
Polishing.
Polishing is the process of creating a smooth and shiny surface by rubbing it or using a chemical action, leaving a surface with significant specular reflection and minimal diffuse reflection. When the surface is magnified thousands of times, it usually looks like mountains and valleys. By repeated abrasion, those mountains are worn down until they are flat or just small hills. The process of polishing with abrasives starts with coarse ones and graduates to fine ones.
Corrosion.
Corrosion can be defined as the disintegration of a material into its constituent atoms due to chemical reactions with its surroundings. In the most common use of the word, this means a loss of electrons of metals reacting with water and oxygen. Weakening of iron due to oxidation of the iron atoms is a well-known example of electrochemical corrosion. This is commonly known as rusting. This type of damage typically produces oxide(s) and/or salt(s) of the original metal. Corrosion can also refer to other materials than metals, such as ceramics or polymers. Although in this context, the term degradation is more common.
SEM.
The scanning electron microscope (SEM) is a type of electron microscope that images the sample surface by scanning it with a high-energy beam of electrons in a raster scan pattern. The electrons interact with the atoms that make up the sample producing signals that contain information about the samples surface topography, composition and other properties such as electrical conductivity.
EDS. (energy dispersive spectroscopy)
EDS is equipment that analysis quantitative and qualitative by scanning the energy at the X-ray region after hit atom using electron beam. We can get information What this atom is and how distributed.
