Chapter4. Economy
The economy of Norway is a developed mixed economy. Norway is the twenty second highest GDP in 2013 but the third highest GDP per-capita in the world. A country maintained the world's first place in the Human Development Index (2001-2006) and has done it since 2009. The Gini's coefficient is just 0.23. It means the gap between the rich and the poor is very small. The traditional industries of Norway were fisheries, forestry and agriculture but Norway has transformed its economy over the past decades into a modern industry. Now the oil and gas, maritime and the seafood sectors are the most remarkable industries in Norway. Above these, the energy & environment, healthcare and green IT are emerging industries. From now on look at these three important industries in Norway and then others in Norway more specifically.
Paragraph1. Industries
The petroleum industry is the most important thing in Norway because the export of natural gas is the second biggest and that of oil is the fifth biggest in the world. The petroleum industry not only contributes to Norway economy but also drives for the innovation and technology development in other sectors. It represents the Norway economy 25% of the GDP and more than 50% of export earnings and providing some 250,000 jobs directly and indirectly. According to the knowledge-based Norway which is a research project in that country, "The Norwegian oil and gas industry was built upon established Norwegian competences in mining (geophysics), maritime operations and maritime construction (yards), with invaluable inputs from foreign operators and suppliers."
